‘Beit Yosef’ is the spiritual centre of Beer Sheva and the entire region for the youth too, with many activities and sessions organised for them, the future generation.
One such session is the leil Shabbos shiur, the ‘oneg Shabbos’ for youth, which attracts many and is held in the synagogue. Young boys gather from all over town, preferring to spend their time in this way rather than in the empty and damaging pursuits available on the street. They taste the sweetness of Torah and kedushah, as given over by Rav Batzri. At the conclusion of the shiur, when the participants have experienced the joy of learning, many joyful songs burst out from their hearts with great emotion, many times also amid tears and feelings of devotion which serve to bring all those present to a greater sensation of closeness to their Creator.
The youth also benefit from organised trips to holy sites and to gedolei hador, which have a great influence upon them, encouraging them to strive for greater levels of Torah and kedushah.

One special program which takes place under the auspices of Beit Yosef is a program whereby the students are occupied with their Torah studies in the mornings, and in the afternoon they have the option of studying various skills which lead to a diploma. This is a project of the Education Ministry, for bochurim between the ages of 14 and 18, who gain useful skills thereby. Each student receives personalised instruction and guidance from rabbonim as to which course of study will be appropriate for them.
The spiritual level of Beer Sheva is increasing from year to year, as the youth mature and add to the Torah atmosphere. In addition, they attract their friends to a Torah lifestyle, bringing them to the Selichos in chodesh Ellul and to other inspiring gatherings. Many are then drawn to continue their studies in yeshivas Beit Yosef and then become genuine yeshivah bochurim, and later kollel avreichim. More and more residents of the south are being drawn to return to their roots. Anyone who was familiar with Beer Sheva in past years would not believe his eyes at the sights that will meet his eyes today…
