Every leil Shabbos is a special occasion in the yeshivah. Hundreds of people from all parts of town choose especially to daven in the main synagogue of the area, Tefillat Avot. One of the attractions is the weekly droshah of the Rav, Rav Binyamin Batzri, on the parshah of the week, into which he also incorporates hashkofah. For one whole hour the people in packed beit haknesset strain their ears to be able to hear the words of HaShem. Afterwards, the mispallelim disperse to their homes across town and repeat the Rav’s words to their families, and in this way, they set the tone for the entire Shabbos to follow.
Due to the great demand of the local population, many shiurim are given over in the course of a Shabbos in the Beit Yosef Torah centre, by Rav Batzri – on halachah, aggada and mussar – everyone finds which subject is to his desire and can enjoy a stimulating shiur each week.
During the chagim, there is an exceptional level of simchah and holy excitement felt between the walls of the Torah centre. Rav Batzri is always at the centre of the joyful celebrations, and particularly so on Simchas Torah, during the hakafos. Men, women and children accept upon themselves the learning of thousands of pages of Gemora, the recital of hundreds of chapters of Tehillim and Mishnayos, and even regular householders donate of themselves in the traditional ‘Yissachar-Zevulun’ relationship. The dancing carries on at the hakafos sheniyos until the early hours of the morning.
